Bellavista means beautiful view and the views from the windows of this old stone farmhouse are how we, back home in winter, imagine Tuscany at its most idyllic. From its enviable position dominating the landscape, hills roll into the horizon on every side. The owners have brought Anglo-Saxon flair to the decor without diminishing its Tuscan flavor and Bellavista has been featured in "The World of Interiors". It is easy to see why with its egg shell blue shutters, cool white walls and ceilings, kilims strewn on the old flagstone floors and white sofas covered in cushions, every one of which, one feels, has a story to tell. Guests may feast at views and more under the vine-clad pergola, while a splendid pool set in green lawns awaits them when they return from a day's sightseeing in Siena, half an hour away. Bellavista is twenty minutes from Montalcino and the Val d'Orcia, untrodden Tuscany, home to the Brunello, one of Italy's most prestigious wines and cellars of famous vintners like the Biondi Santi family.
Nearby is the unforgettable abbey of Sant'Antimo, long empty but recently reoccupied by monks who sing vespers there in the evenings under the beautiful golden stone of the nave with is alabaster windows. Another neighbor is the little Renaissance township of Montepulciano and Pienza, entirely designed from scratch by Pope Pius II in the 1400s.
Ground Floor: A foyer opens onto the large drawing room which spans the width of the house. French doors open onto the gardens on each side. The large kitchen/dining room also has French doors opening onto a walled and shaded area which is very pleasant for breakfast. A powder room with shower is conveniently located downstairs.
Upstairs there is a large sitting room perfect as an indoor play area for children and four bedrooms. The sizable and charming master bedroom has an en suite bath, there are two more very attractive double bedrooms and a twin bedroom which can be converted into a room with four beds if needed (twin bunk beds). Two more full baths are on this floor.
Outdoors a pool house with refrigerator leads via a shaded arbor down a few steps to the pool. The pool is in a beautiful setting near the house and is fenced for the safety of children.
The house has a satellite dish (with access to Sky digital but not pay per view), fax machine and a large selection of both children's and adult videos.
Included are a maid who comes six days a week for five hours each day, a gardener and a person who comes to clean the pool once a week. Extra staff can be arranged.
