This handsome, old stone farmhouse, masterfully restored and furnished, is a five bedroom private home, the owner's own, never before rented out, at ten minutes from Todi, one of the loveliest towns in Umbria. The house stands on a hundred acre estate which belongs to a well-known noble family from Southern Italy. About thirty years ago they fell in love with this place with its views spanning over the town of Todi and the surrounding hills, some of the most beautiful countryside imaginable. They have spent the intervening years lovingly restoring the farmhouses, planting the gardens and orchards and olive groves and growing wheat, barley and fields of sunflowers on the estate.
Behind the house is a twelfth century tower, now a romantic ruin forming a poignant backdrop to the swimming pool. There is also a private family chapel built in the 1300's, still in use on special feast days, while the house itself was built in 1798. The owner's taste is impeccable, a supreme elegance that never makes you feel uncomfortable, contriving to be both chic and cozy at the same time. The bedrooms are luxurious, white and coolly inviting after a day's sight-seeing in the area, while the kitchen is every cook's dream - equipped with every possible pot and pan, it is also a large room, congenial for hanging out as well as creating gourmet cuisine. The kitchen opens onto a loggia running the length of the house and a courtyard for dining or just foregathering outside.
On the same property is the nearest Italians come to a cottage, a higgledy-piggledy jumble of stones covered in flowering creepers with a vine-clad portico in stone. Inside it is quite delightful with a country kitchen, fireplace and beams, cheerful checks and stripes and as with the main house, everything in perfect taste.
On the ground floor are a large and comfortable drawing room with fireplace which opens through French doors onto the loggia, a cozy library with fireplace and dining table, the kitchen which accesses the large outdoor dining area and a double bedroom with a big bathroom with tub and shower (handicap accessible). There is a powder room as well.
Upstairs there is a cheerful large square library with a comfortable sofa and fireplace. Off this are four bedrooms, all light-filled and with enchanting views. The splendid master bedroom has air-conditioning and a large fully equipped en suite bath. In addition there is a charming twin bedroom with an en suite full bath, a romantic smaller double bedroom and a children's room with twin beds. The latter two bedrooms share a full bath.
The maid is included for 5 days a week 5 hours per day. Caretaker is also included. If you wish the housekeeper for more hours or Saturday or evening meals to be prepared by an excellent cook, they can be arranged at extra cost which should be paid directly to them.
