The Torre del Tenente or Lieutenant's Tower is perched at the highest point of the slope leading up to the tiny picturesque hamlet of Acqualoreto. With splendid views all around, the Torre del Tenente is the ideal refuge for a writer, a painter, or a couple seeking a romantic hideaway, seemingly suspended above some of the most beautiful countryside in Umbria. On three floors, it is an imaginatively and sensitively re-furbished medieval tower, outwardly forbidding, as towers tend to be, but inside full of light and comfort, uplifting and welcoming, a real home from home.
This is the perfect place to entertain friends, in front of a log fire in the Autumn or under the stone loggia wreathed in climbing plants in summer, overlooking the valley of the River Tiber. The beautiful terraced gardens with lawns and a profusion of old fashioned roses are a delight, leading down to the pool area from where guests can enjoy the same stunning viewpoint. This is the owner's home and the sophisticated yet informal taste and easy-going atmosphere, combined with its idyllic location, make it a very special place to be. It is always exciting somehow to live in a tower, especially if it has once belonged to a Lieutenant! The owner moves to a small cottage on the grounds in summertime, maintaining a discreet and unobtrusive presence, whilst often being on hand to meet her new guests.
On the ground floor a large, comfortably and elegantly furnished drawing room with fireplace and dining area opens onto the stone loggia. Also on this level are a cosy small study, a small but completely equipped kitchen and a powder room with shower. On the next level are two double bedrooms and a full bath. On the top level there is a second lovely drawing room with its own small kitchen and a sophisticated loft completely and tastefully furnished with a double bed and en suite bath with jacuzzi.
Housekeeping service is included two days a week. Extra hours are available at extra cost. A cook is available at extra cost and will shop and cook. Both the housekeeper and the cook are to be paid directly by guests.
