VENICE
Venice is arguably the loveliest city in the world. Very early in her history Venice became an aristocratic oligarchy with unimaginable wealth and power. THE VENETO
After the Venetian Republic conquered mainland territories in the 15th century, it became fashionable among it's patricians to spend parts of their year at their country houses. Their villas became more and more luxurious ,competing with each other and even the mansions of Venice. By the 18th century many villas had become the real center of a family's wealth. About 700 of these villas are of artistic interest. The most celebrated are the 16th century Palladian Villas.

Designed by Palladio and executed by his favourite pupil Scamozzi in 1588, the villa rises out of the flat Venetian countryside alone against the horizon to achieve the same initial shock effect as the Taj Mahal. |
